Depois de inestimáveis serviços prestados à comunidade colecionística, Cidraman, o Homem Cereser, partiu em missão desconhecida e sem previsão de retorno.

Para assumir seu lugar o Jotacê me procurou e, após uma rigorosa partida de biriba, fui selecionado para comentar os lançamentos da Criterion de agora em diante. Então vamos lá.

ABRIL

Em abril tivemos os lançamentos de O Selvagem da Motocicleta, do Coppola, a Mulher do Ano de George Stevens, Tampopo – Os Brutos Também Comem Spaghetti (WTF?), de Juzô Itame com o Ken Watanabe, Jeanne Dielman, de Chantal Akerman e o Buena Vista Social Club, do Wim Wenders.

Além disso a Criterion está disponibilizando separadamente dois títulos que já saíram anteriormente no box The Essential Jacques Demy: Os Guarda-Chuvas do Amor e Duas Garotas Românticas. Aliás, bem que a Versátil podia lançar um “A Arte de Jacques Demy” por aqui, hein?

Para terminar, volta ao catálogo Kagemusha, do Akira Kurosawa, com ilustração de capa feita pelo próprio.

MAIO

Maio já chegou e com ele a Criterion traz o que talvez seja o primeiro filme 100% brasileiro de sua coleção (Orfeu Negro não conta pois foi dirigido pelo francês Marcel Camus e é uma produção ítalo-franco-brasileira): Limite, do Mario Peixoto.

O experimental filme mudo de 1931 é considerado por muitos críticos (e personalidades como o cantor David Bowie) como um dos melhores filmes brasileiros de todos os tempos.

Ele está saindo no box Martin Scorsese’s World Cinema Project No. 2, que seleciona importantes filmes do mundo todo restaurados pela Film Foundation’s World Cinema Project. Além de Limte, que tem como um dos extras uma entrevista com o diretor Walter Salles, estão presentes no box os filmes (se prepara porque os nomes não são fáceis) Insiang de Lino Brocka (Filipinas, 1976), Taipei Story de Edward Yang (Taiwan, 1985), Law of the Border de Lütfi Ö. Akad (Turquia, 1966), Revenge de Ermek Shinarbaev (Cazaquistão, 1989) e Mysterious Object at Noon de Apichatpong Weerasethakul (Tailândia, 2000). Uma curiosidade: este box é um combo Blu-ray (3 discos) + DVD (6 discos), com todo o conteúdo presente nos dois formatos.

Tem também Bom Dia, um dos raros filmes coloridos do Yasugiro Ozu (e que não saiu naquela coleção do diretor lançada aqui pela Versátil).

O universo dos quadrinhos está presente no lançamento de Esquadrão Suicida, The Cult Edition. Mentira. É Ghost World, de Terry Zwigoff, baseado na hq underground do Daniel Clowes.

E para terminar, Dheepan – O Refúgio, de Jacques Audiard, vencedor da Palma de Ouro de Cannes em 2015.
